I have no artwork or album info in my amazon mp3 download so is it clear Evan plays all the lead on Take it Easy - I'm leaning towards it not being him - he sounds unusually well behaved if it is him.

Got my bundle on Saturday. Really dig evan's dip into the Reggae pool with Unfamiliar. That would be my ace track on this release. Also like:
Now and then
Speed of the Sound
Things

Look forward to seeing the live show in May with Tommy Stinson.
nothing to say but it's OK.

@TinnitusWaves - for some reason it makes me quite a lot happier knowing it's Evan - in that case - I'm impressed.
@GreyRay - I agree - Unfamiliar - a great song anyway - has had something added to it.

Do you have a favorite of Evan's originals, Suzy? Just curious.

33s into Settled Down there is a sharp metallic clang that sound exactly like 2 chrome vanadium double ended ring spanners being banged together - (sorry - can't be more specific than that) - it happens only once - what the hell is that? Goes right through your head listening to it loud on headphones. Or is it some mp3 processing artefact?

You must have that song turned up pretty loud for it to sound like that. I hear the sound but it's not overly loud in the mix to me. It does have a hammer on anvil type sound to it.

It's probably the frequency response profile of my Sennheiser PX100 headphones peaking at the wrong place. I prefer them to ear buds when I'm stationary - they are a bit louder. Odd that it only occurs once.

It was an accident. I forget what it was that made the sound but we decided to leave it in. The mastering brightened the music up quite a bit from my final mixes and I agree, it does stand out more now than it did before.

ABANDONED - to me sounds like it is left over from the BABY I'M BORED sessions.

evan's voice sounds younger, while the production and backing vocals evoke B I B 'S producer, collaborator JON BRION.

does anyone know if this track ABANDONED , was in fact - abandoned in 2003 -only to resurface in 2019 ?

Everything on the new record was recorded from scratch in January and February of 2018 at Old Soul Studios in Catskill NY and at The Print Shop in Oak Bluffs MA. We had several goes at this song, first with Mikey playing drums and later with Lee ( which is the version that got used ). There were a couple of swings taken at another Lucinda Williams song, "Drunken Angel" , but that never really came together and so it was.....abandoned in favour of "Abandoned".

I just love the production of this record, warm with a great groove, love the mix of songs, Evan sounds sublime. I’m a replacements / bash & pop nut so can’t wait to see him with Tommy in NYC.. Of course I want him to record some fresh material, but as long as he’s happy doing his thing, then that’s alright with me.. He’s a one off, and there aren’t many one-offs around any more. Peace.

We talk about it frequently. The next few months have a lot of touring, but there's time after that. I've heard some of the songs in embryonic form, I'm sure you guys will love it.

Thanks!

I sang "Rockin Stroll" to my younger niece when she was a baby. She wasn't being strolled, but I'd like to think that she appreciated it all the same.

Stinson rocks. I just picked up the Bash and Pop "Anything could happen" CD and it's great. Started checking him out due to this tour and a buddy of mine is going to the upcoming show because he is replacements fan. Totally impressed and not sure how he hasn't came onto my radar before. It's not Evan but I post this as i think most fans of Evan are music junkies anyway:

He seems like he may have been drinking a bit - but the dudes are rocking.

It's impossible to sum him up easily but this is as good as as anything I've ever read about him.

10+ years ago I was a teacher, teaching 8-9 year olds and every Friday we used to end the last 10+ mins of the week singing endless verses of Hospital - I have such happy memories of those times - all the kids loved that song.

Bash & Pop's Friday Night Is Killing Me is my favorite of the ex-Replacements' initial set of post-breakup albums. Paul Westerberg's 14 Songs is great too, but Friday Night tops it; Tommy obviously took notes while working with Paul. Tommy's solo album Village Gorilla Head (2004) is also excellent from start to finish.

Well, a year has gone by since the release and I have to say it’s always a pleasure to play this record. Quality.

A little while before Varshons 2, I remember E. Dando saying there were already so many great songs in the world he didn't see the point of writing new ones. But I believe it's pointless because these great songs already exist, they're already there, so there's no point in covering them. He is such a great writer and composer and with such a nice voice I hope he will release new songs of his. Soon!

I agree 2020 would be much better with a new Lemonheads album with new material. I read or saw an interview where he said an album of new material was ready to be recorded after Varshons 2. I'm really excited to see what will come next.
